HIPAA Overview

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company’s Health Division and State Farm’s Employee Group Health Plan are Covered Entities under the HIPAA law; and therefore must comply with the Administrative Simplification provision.

To the extent State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, it's subsidiaries and affiliates, are not covered entities under HIPAA, electronic medical bills for services provided to treat injuries covered by property and casualty insurance; e.g., injury caused by automobile or work-related accidents, are not currently being accepted.

The Administrative Simplification provision of HIPAA standardized the exchange of certain electronic data and established standards for the privacy and security of certain individual’s protected health information.
