Any time we exchange business information with a business partner, we want
to use an electronic exchange format if at all possible. Our preferred method
for this type of interaction are EDI (standards based) and XML (both standards
based and proprietary). Exceptions to this policy should be well-substantiated
with a very strong business case documenting why we have chosen other methods
and a clear cost benefit supporting the business case.
We have chosen these two methods of information exchange because they place the
information in a format that is easily incorporated into other electronic processes
within our company and for the business partner. This provides the opportunity
for both companies in the relationship to gain efficiencies by processing the
information electronically without human intervention if appropriate.
