Why submit medical bills electronically?

  • Costs – transactions are transmitted electronically. No printing. No envelopes. No mailing.
  • Accuracy – information in electronic bills is often more accurate and less susceptible to data transcription errors.
  • Speed – claim data often reaches us in a matter of minutes and hours as opposed to days.

State Farm® utilizes UHIN as our gateway for receiving and processing electronic medical bills and attachments. If you are already exchanging electronic health care claim transactions with another clearinghouse, they may be able to route your electronic health care claim transactions to State Farm® via UHIN. If you are not currently exchanging electronic health care transactions, you may contract with any clearinghouse of your choice. However, they must have the ability to either directly connect with UHIN or have a connection with another clearinghouse which has a direct connection to UHIN in order to submit electronic medical bills/attachments to State Farm®.
